Minimal pairs are two words that differ by exactly one sound — like ship/sheep or light/right. If you can hear the difference, you can learn to say the difference.

Why practice minimal pairs?

Your brain filters out sound contrasts your native language doesn't use. Minimal-pair drills retrain that filter — listening accuracy comes first, then pronunciation follows.
