/g/
consonant · voiced
as in go
How to make the /g/ sound
voiced voiceless
- 1Same position as K, voice on.
- 2Note: the U after G is often silent ("guitar", "guest").
- 3GH at word start is a plain G ("ghost").
⚠ The most common mistake
Softening it before E/I where English keeps it hard: "guest" is not "jest".
Especially tricky for speakers of: Spanish, Italian.
